Portugal is attracting European and North American partners to a new space age

The Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, said that Portugal wants to play a leading role in the new space age, during the Paris Air Show in France.


"We know our size and we want to have a new position of cooperation, creating competition but always in collaboration" with the other stakeholders, he said. 
Manuel Heitor stressed that the development of a new space age for small satellites is being developed, especially in the United States and China, and Portugal "wants to be an important player in this area".


"We are attracting European and North American companies and consortia," he added, referring to the goal of developing the space industry through the new Portugal Space agency.


At the aeronautics fair in Paris, Manuel Heitor also presented the Satellite Launching Program in the Azores and asked the contribution of several companies to share the experience of work and investment in Portugal. 
Also in Paris, the Minister held several meetings with representatives of French and international companies with interests in the aerospace sector.


Portugal Space also signed at the Paris Air Show its first bilateral agreement with the French Space Agency to stimulate cooperation in the space sector between the two agencies, reinforcing the development of economic activities in areas of Earth observation, climate and climate change .
