IBM marks its 75-year journey in Finland with the setting up of an Incubator.
The aim of this internal startup is to recognize new business opportunities by searching out innovative ideas and new models of co-operation as well as with rapid implementation of pilot schemes and prototypes.
Scheduled to begin operations at the start of 2012, the Incubator will be steered by IBM’s Director of Innovation Ville Peltola. The Incubator’s first pilots and prototypes will include contributions towards smart city solutions. Using data visualization, for example, it is possible to combine data generated by the city and use it to discover new, concealed connections.
In setting up the Incubator, IBM is supporting the ideas highlighted by the Confederation of Finnish Industries Change factors and Forces for change working party to harness companies’ internal resources: new concepts, creativity and daring. It is important to support Intrapreneurship activity so that in every single task we dare to do things differently.
“Innovation isn’t about expecting great flashes of genius that will revolutionize the world at a stroke, instead innovation requires a new way of thinking and systematic work. The essence of entrepreneurship is daring to try, ”summarized the Confederation of Finnish Industry’s CEO Timo Kekkonen.
